Then and Now
Manila has changed from the past to now in many ways. The first known history of Manilla is 900 AD, by the 13th century Manila has changed into a fortified town with a trading quadrant.
In 1581 the Philippines, containing Manilla, was colnialized by Spain and remained in their control until 1898 where it was givin to the USA in an agreement, called the Treaty of Paris, at the end of the Spanish-American war. Then Manila went under Japenese occupation during WWII. The invasion of the Philippines started on December 8, 1941, ten hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, because of the attack on Pearl Harbour the American air force that was charged with defending was severely damaged, causing them and the fleet to withdraw to Java on December 12.
From 1952 to 1986 Manila entered an time known as the "Golden Age" where a man called Arsenio Lacson was the first mayor elected, making vast changes to Manila and rebuilding it after the war , restoring its old name the "Pearl of the Orient"
At the end of the "Golden Age" in 1986 Manila entered the start of the Fifth Republic.
